Marie Channer
(American)
Marie Channer grew up in the Deep South in Alabama, where portraiture is a
revered tradition. Her mother was a locally acclaimed artist who took Marie
under her wing and taught her the fundamentals. These idyllic life experiences
and raising five children have given her the ability to make an emotional
connection with her subjects that ensures the subject’s inner beauty and charm
come across clearly in their portrait. This is especially true in her portraits
of children.
Marie Channer now lives in Colorado. When not in her studio working on a
western painting or portrait, she is in a class studying Old Master techniques
or in a museum studying paintings. She also teaches oil painting. She is a
member of the American Society of Portrait Artists.
Marie’s distinctive style and quality of work have earned her a first place
award at the Boulder National Art Show in both 2002 and 2003. In addition,
Marie was honored with The People’s Choice Award at the Louisville National Show
in 2002. She was featured in the Taos Society of Portrait Artists Annual
Portrait Exhibition in 2003 and again in 2004, at the Millicent Rogers Museum.
That year she also won Best of Show at the Gilpin Art Association National
Show. In 2004 she won first place in oils at the national show in Gilpin County
and The People’s Choice Award at the Art of Estes Park Gallery National Show.
In the fall of 2010 she won The People’s Choice Award in the Louisville National
Art Show in Louisville, Colorado.
Marie has been featured in The American Art Collector Magazine on three
different occasions and most recently in Western Art Collector Magazine. She
was invited to be a member of the International Guild of Realism in 2011.
