Scott Fitzgerald
Scott Fitzgerald is an artist with the vision of a romantic and the craft of an old master.
A native Californian, he attended California State University at Fullerton from 1968 to 1974 and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Art. For two years, he taught drawing and printmaking at the University while establishing himself as a printmaker.
For a period of twelve years, he devoted himself completely to etching, producing prints in a style so intricate and complex that a 14” x20” print could take more than 900 hours to complete.
While having a successful career as a printmaker, Scott extended his creative energy to oil painting in 1987. Several years later, he decided to paint full time. “After many years of microscopic work on metal plates, the fluidity of paint is exhilarating.” commented Scott.
Bringing his unique experience to a new medium, Scott builds up as many as five separate layers of paint, creating rich textures and images with surprising depth.
Scott enjoys traveling to seek inspiration from nature and to study paintings in museums around the world. His paintings have often been compared to the paintings of the Hudson River School and the American Luminists.
